Wild storms bring down a tree!

So last night Corey & I were out with friends Sara & David. We had dinner, saw a movie. Great time! Except during all this there were some pretty bad storms. On our way home the rain was coming down hard and the winds were pretty gusty. As we slowly made our way down our street to be careful of any fallen trees we came across this:

Yup....that's our front yard...
Pretty scary huh?
Here's more...

This last picture is between ours & our neighbors house. The longest trunk of the tree managed to land right in between the houses with so far, no damage to our houses! Incredible! It also missed our gas meter by only a little bit, which is also another thing to be thankful for!

Now for the removal process..... :/

The New Footloose!!

I am so excited to see this movie! I've been waiting for like 2 years for this! I think it will be good because it's not going to be an exact remake, yet they kept enough of the key details that it will still be great!

Sproost Blog

A really great website that everyone should check out is SPROOST:

Sproost has what they call a "StyleEngine" that helps you discover your decorating style. It's a little quiz and you rate different spaces on Love It, Like It, Just Ok, Don't Like It, & Hate It.

How to take the Style Quiz:

Imagine the specific room you'd like to redecorate. Keep that room in mind as you look at these images. Ask yourself:

  • Do I like the overall feel of the room?
  • Do I like most of the furniture / accessories in the room?
Focus on the furniture, fabrics, rugs, and accessories. Don't pay too much attention to:
  • Windows, floors, wall material, and other architectural features
  • Color — it's easy to change color combinations
  • Layout and arrangement — also easy to change

After going through a variety of styles they determine what your style is. Often your style is a combination of 2 or more. Mine is Cottage Chic,  Rustic Revival, & Nantucket.

When I first heard these I wrinkled my nose, but after reading the descriptions I definitely fit in! I like neutral colors, beach inspired decor, natural elements like wicker, driftwood, hemp and natural fabrics like linen and burlap.

Rustic Revival: The key is to keep the spaces feeling open (go modern!) and yet warm (yay for rustic!), and by going light on the walls and major pieces and more color on the accents and accessories you can achieve this mix really well.

Nantucket: The fabrics are natural like cottons and linens and are light in color and touch. Much of the furniture is wood or wood framed (the lighter the better, think driftwood!) and wicker, when done right, is a must.

Cottage Chic: Your space should feel light and airy and give off the mood one has when at the beach: laid back! Your true inspiration (whether you know it or not) is the sea…the colors found at your favorite beach: white and light beige of the sand, a variety of blues for the ocean and sky, and greens and pale grays of the sea glass…but the key is white!

Here are some of my favorite images from those categories:

Farmhouse Interior With Rustic Elements And a Contemporary Flair

While surfing the net today I found a beautiful home that I just had to share!! This home was an abandoned and ruined farmhouse in Ampurdan, Spain. It is just gorgeous and wish I could create a home like this! If you want to read/see more check out the link below, otherwise enjoy the photos I've posted!

Project Update

So I've been busy working on my project. But I'm having an issue finishing it, so I'm open to help and opinions!

I've been looking for something to hang over my bed for a while. We have no headboard so the area is a little plain. While cleaning out our house I came across some pieces of wood that actually go with our nightstand but were damaged/scratched and so we got replacements. I hung on the the damaged pieces thinking someday I could use them. I had the top and the two drawer fronts.

Here are my supplies: the wood, scissors, hemp/twine, hot glue gun and Elmers glue.
I started out cutting a lot of strands of hemp the length of the wood, then to attach the hemp well, I ran a line of hot glue at the top of the piece. Since hot glue dries so quickly and is so messy it wasn't a good option to put under the rest. So I ran squiggly lines of Elmers down the wood under the hemp in about 2" sections at a time.

Work in progress:

After covering the large piece and two small pieces I placed a small sawtooth hanger on each. They were ready to hang and critique!

Please do not bed wasn't made at the time... After hanging I definitely agreed they need something else on them as a focal point. I think I'll leave the side plaques blank, but the center plaque needs something.

My sister suggested a natural plant element like Lunaria.....

Or some pretty dried leaves.....

Both items courtesy of
A wonderful decorating supply website!

I like both ideas, although having it attached to a branch already might be easier to decide placement. I have searched my local Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, World Market, Kirklands, and Michaels. I found some 'silk' lunaria at Michaels but it just looked cheap and fake, not near as pretty as the picture above. I'm ok with buying online but I'd rather buy at a store so that I can see the product in hand first.

So...any other ideas to help me finish my project? Comments so far?

New DIY Project coming soon!

This weekend I got a bit crafty! I'm still working on it, and will reveal pictures of the process and finished product soon. Until then I'll give you a little teaser.....
Although this may look like an ordinary roll of hemp cording it is helping me create something very cool for my bedroom! I love the texture the hemp cording can add. Also I've been working on bringing more natural elements and fibers to my room so this is perfect!
The project is something for above our bed!

Also I was able to fix our wicker chest at the end of the bed. You may notice that the wicker strips are drooping a little and creating a gap, well, with my mad creative skills it's fixed! Pictures to come for that as well!

Also, you might notice our new bedside lamps! I got them last month from Ikea!
I'm loving their rice paper shades! i think they coordinate very nicely with my dried flower arragement on my dresser!
Loving my cozy relaxing bedroom!
