Beach Day = Success!

Saturday we made our way to Galveston, and with a little change of plans, crossed to Port Bolivar on the ferry. I've only been on a ferry a few times and this was fun. However the lines were LONG!

The ferry's had an upper deck and during the ride you could get out of your car and take in the sites! Also from the deck you were able to look out and see DOLPHINS!!

I've NEVER seen a dolphin! I felt like a kid in a candy store! Yay!! :)

After the ferry ride we made it to Crystal Beach!
This beach/island was actually totally destroyed by Ike in 2008 but they have started re-building.
You are allowed to drive up and down the beach and pull your car right up the the water. That was kind of cool.

So operation beach day was a success! One beach down, hundreds to go! We plan to visit as many beaches as possible this year and find our favorites!

Mr. Ken

This past week I was paid a visit by Mr. Ken.
Mr. Ken and I are old friends and we go way back! Mr. Ken was in fact my very first Ken.
He's been in hiding for a while packed in with toys from my childhood at my sister's house.

My sister is a nanny you see, and when her two little girls came over last week they got to play with Mr. Ken...

When I got home from work Mr. Ken and I were reunited.

If you look closely please note his pleated pants and the hideous print...
Yup, that's the 80's!
Also the nice moth hole in his shirt. Really this outfit is a jumpsuit and the shirt and pants are one piece. Hmmm....

In fact this Ken was very cool when I first got him...he had bent arms! This meant he could actually carry Barbie and his other possibilities were endless. Bent arms?!? How cool is that?!?!

Yeah I know...I'm a dork, but these were the thoughts going through my head as a young, silly homeschooled girl. Who can blame me?

What did your Ken doll look like? Any special features you loved?

Wingback Chair Makeover

FINALLY!!!
I finally did it!!!  I finished my chair makeover!!

I started this back in September 2011. I stopped working on it early October when I found out we were moving. Sometime in late January I started working on it again. Then I ran into a hiccup when I ran out of nailhead tacks and had friends and family all over the country searching for the ones I had purchased almost 6 months ago. (My mom found them in Pennsylvania! Yay!)

I can finally show you the whole thing! I'm thrilled to be done and I hope you like it!

Here's pictures of the before, and some of the demo.

And for the finished product...

 Before & After comparison....

Here's the breakdown of the cost:
Chair - $25 (Craigslist)
Fabric - $13 - (Osnaburg fabric from Walmart)
Muslin - $5 (lining)
Paint -$0 (had a sample paint lying around)
Hammered Nailhead Tack - $4
Tacks - $2 (basic kind to secure fabric)
Foam - $5 (seat)
Batting - $3
Heat 'n Bond - $3 (to secure fabric to tufted seat back)
Total: $60

A chair like this at Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, or Ballard Designs be at the very least, $500! So I think my $60 knock off is a steal! So proud of myself for my first re-upholstery job!
SUCCESS!

Energy on a Monday...

Or lack thereof...

It's Monday. I have allergies and the pollen is killing me. My sleep is rough...in and out coughing and generally uncomfortable...
So here's some tips for all of us on a Monday.
via pinterest

Get on your toes. If you're feeling sleepy at your desk, the best way to wake up your circulatory system is to roll up and down on your toes. As the blood starts flowing, more nourishing oxygen and glucose are transported throughout your body -- so you feel more energized.

Wear brighter colors.
This trick is related to the mood you project to people, and the reciprocating mood they project towards you. If you wear dark, somber colors, you project a dark, somber attitude, and people will respond to you with a somber attitude. If you wear bright, happy colors, you’ll get that attitude projected towards you, which will boost your own mood and energy levels.

Flirt.
It’s fun, it’s harmless (keep it innocent), and it’s effective. Nothing quite gets the heart pumping like a little flirting.
(Not one of my own preferred energy getters but it sounded fun!)

Sniff some citrus.
In addition to the Vitamin C, citrus scents (like orange, lemon and lime) stimulate alertness. So lather on some of that lemon scented lotion. (I use a sunburst tangerine lotion)

Purge low-value tasks from your to-do list.
If you have a ridiculously long to-do list that is impossible to get all the way through, you’ll feel tired just thinking about the to-do list. If you want to actually cross off tasks from your to-do list, you’ll need to throw out the crap tasks that you don’t want/need to deal with. Either delegate those tasks, move them into a second “nice but not critical” list, or just admit that they’re probably never going to get done and move them to the “maybe/someday” list. Shortening your to-do list to just the most critical, must-do tasks will give you the “energy” to start knocking out those tasks.

Dress up.
Feeling better about yourself has a magical way of giving you more energy. Put just a tad more effort into looking your best for work, and you’ll get compliments from coworkers that will make you feel better — and make you a perkier, more energetic worker bee.

Have a laugh.
Laughter is great medicine for exhaustion. Make sure you laugh regularly to keep your mood up. Seek out funny people or subscribe to a daily email joke. I like the website dear blank please blank for a quick smile. What’s your favorite quick funny pick-me-up?

Date Night!

Saturday night was date night with Corey. We went to Star Cinema Grill to see a movie.

dress: Two Hearts $34.99, boots: Journee via Overstock.com $26.75 (I had a coupon!)

The Vineyard-Girls Night Out!

Thursday night I went out with Liz and some friends! (Yay I have a few!!)
We went to The Vineyard, a french wine bar and bistro. *Ooohhh....fancy!*
Thursday was gorgeous here in Houston and we sat out on the patio! In my opinion every restaurant is better with a good patio experience! The food was good, the wine was delicious, and the company was fabulous!

Anyways....here's some pics of my outfit and the night!

My outfit:
dress: H&M $24.95, cardigan: Express $19.99, shoes: Rampage via Ross Stores $12.99, necklace: vintage key purchased at a flea market.

Check out my sister's post on her outfit for this night at Barefoot And Beautiful

dear blank please blank. part three

It has been a very long time since I've posted about dear blank please blank.
This site never fails to make me laugh! Please enjoy some of my favorites!

Dear world,
How come when a new commercial technology is developed it takes only a few years to become available, but when a breakthrough occurs in medical research it takes decades?
