Exploring Houston: Heritage Society Park

Saturday we spent some time exploring Houston. Thus begins my new blog post series...Exploring Houston!
This past weekend we visited Heritage Society Park where many historic buildings have been moved to so that we can preserve and enjoy them.
We took the opportunity to have a bit of a photo shoot!

St. John's Church...a lovely quaint church to get married in!!

Loving the old with the new here...

Peeking in the church!! :)

Close-ups of wonderful vintage features...

Falling in love with the peeling porches on these houses...

Doorknobs to die for...

At the end we found the Spirit of Confederacy statue...

And had a little fun...

Then the bum sleeping on the bench started getting dressed and coming towards us so we decided it was time to leave....quickly!! :)

Can't believe this hidden treasure is right in the middle of Houston. Had so much fun with my sis and gal pals just walking around taking pics (and sweating our socks off!!)

three years and a photoshoot.

I've been a little quiet this week and I want to tell you all why!
I'm so excited to announce that I am starting to do custom furniture painting on the side.
You've seen a lot of post lately about furniture I've been doing. It's my hobby, I love it...why not get paid for that hard work and slaving away in the heat?!

This past week I acquired my first two clients!! Tuesday I got started on a desk and hutch that I'm making over into a luxurious black distressed set for a home office. Soon after that, another cabinet for someone who shares my tastes and wants a recreation of my recent white washed chicken wire cabinet!

I'm so excited to be doing this! I'd love for you to spread the word to your friends and I hope you all stay tuned for my before and after pictures of all of these projects!
(see my tab at the top for more info)

On to my post subject....June 14th I celebrated my third wedding anniversary with my wonderful hubby. Instead of getting gifts or a fancy dinner we opted for a fun photo shoot with the wonderful photographer Meg Sloan!

Here's some of my favorite pictures...

Hope you all enjoyed these pics as much as I did!

Bollywood Girls Night

Last week we had a Bollywood theme girl's night. We watched the movie Bride & Prejudice. If you haven't seen it, it's a great movie with music, dancing and fun! Obviously, it's based on Pride & Prejudice with a Bollywood flair.

We dressed up in Indian clothes, made Indian foods, and watched the movie.
Had LOTS of fun!!

Blogger Meetup

So I recently joined a Houston blogging group know as the H-town bloggers . . . or the H-town blogger hotties! :)
They are fantastic! These girls are so sweet and I'm love making new friends!
Our first meetup since I joined was at Pinot's Palette. I've never done one of these painting classes and I was slightly terrified as I don't really paint pictures . . .
However, I'm really impressed at how it turned out!
This painting is called Candied Skies.

My progress throughout the class . . .

Here's my before and after!! :)

And some pictures of other girls working hard on their own painting!

Some things you should know about Pinot's Palette...
  • They offer public and private parties (Private was perfect for our group or bridal shower)
  • They can come to you and host your party wherever you want
  • Their Art Tasting national charity contest will be the weekend of September 14th and they have studios throughout the country participating and will be splitting the proceeds between national and local charities. They are asking our fans to select their favorite charity for them. All they have to do is go to the Facebook page at facebook.com/PinotsPalette. The contest runs throughout the month of June and the winner will be announced in July.
