Window Pane Picture Frame

I'm so excited to finally share my new piece of DIY home decor with you!

I've had a big empty wall space above my entry table since we moved in, and it's been driving me crazy!

I had seen some ideas on Pinterest that really inspired me!
So I asked my brother-in-law (who works for a major window & door retailer/installer) to keep an eye out for old windows that were being replaced.

He brought me TWO amazing windows! I can't begin to thank him enough...I might need to cook him a steak dinner as a thank you!

So to start out with this project I sanded down and distressed the window frame. Then to age it, I applied a vinegar & steel wool solution.
I was so excited about this window that I hurried and added some hanging hardware and hung it!

Then we had to decided if I still wanted to add the picture or if I liked just the window.
Me & the hubs decided to try the picture, even the window was awesome alone we wanted a little more there.
So, we picked out a picture from a photo shoot we had last summer - courtesy of Meg Sloan Photography  (love her!!)

We headed to Staples (btw Office Depot can't make them as big) to get the picture printed. It to be at least 34" wide and 38" tall. We had them just scale the picture big enough to get the width and we'd just trim it.
The total cost of the print was $7.50 for the black & white. Color would have been $50+ so we thought black & white would work just fine!! :)

In this picture, I am laying the window on the print to decide where I wanted the placement. After we had it where we wanted it, we trimmed it and apllied it to the frame with double stick tape.
(Some tutorials on this use plywood and attach the picture to that but I didn't think it was necessary and didn't want to spend the extra $$ if I didn't need to!)

And here's the final result!

I love my new wall decor and I couldn't be happier with the results!
I try to find wall art in the store I like for my house but I never can. This was just perfect for us. My hubby loves it too! Yay!!

Have you made your own home decor? Leave me a comment with the link, I'd love to check it out!!

P.S. I want to announce the Laundry Detergent Giveaway winner . . . or should I say winners!!!
That's right, I was so excited, and feeling generous, that I picked TWO!
Congrats to Heather Benton & Casie McDonald!
I've contacted them and am preparing their packages! Can't wait to send them out!
Thanks to everyone who participated!

I love it, I want one! Would that be weird since the windows in my house are old and "distressed".

I've actually seen this idea somewhere, but it's only now that I sincerely appreciate and see its potential. Hehe. It is a nostalgia-inducing piece. Simply choose the photo you never get tired looking at or a photo which stirs your emotions and it can be the only decoration to fill your room. :D
