Grain Sack Stool Makeover

Last fall we moved in to our new house. The kitchen had a counter height bar. We wanted stool that would match our dark wood, so we searched for some darker saddle stools (on a budget) We thought we found a dark color, but ended up with a sort of medium wood color that was less than inspiring.

I forgot to take a picture of the before so this is similar to how they looked:

My first thought was to paint them my favorite shade of white, Careless Whisper.

I liked the color but thought it was a bit plain. So I decided to add a grain sack stripe to the stools!
I marked my stool using my clear plastic grid ruler.
It is pliable and was able to bend to the stool shape for a clean line.
I opted for a 7/8" wide stripe. The best part about this is that you can customize your stripes exactly how you like them!

Then I taped off the edges and starting painting! I just grabbed a small bottle of craft paint for this part.

After painting the middle stripe I took off the paint and marked the skinny stripes.
-3/16" away from the big stripe
-1/4" wide.

When pulling off the painters tape it took some of the paint with it. At first this made me VERY upset!
Then I realized, I love that! It adds to the aged distressed look! I put the tape back on and pulled more paint off!

I'm so happy with my new stools, they bring a little more farmhouse into my kitchen!

Now I just need to make myself some grain sack towels!
I found the perfect blank towels at Walmart so I'll have to go back and buy them soon!

Just wondering if this blue shade is right or not?

The blue color looks good for the authenticity, however I don't have this color in my house. I have more aqua, turquoise shades. What to do?!?

Lastly, I want to leave you with some art I re-created!
I found this art from The Home Shed. But could only find a 53kb version that was not good for re-printing. So I re-created my own in Adobe Illustrator.

I'm not trying to take credit for originality - as I do not claim to have created this idea. I just created a higher quality version to share.
